NHS Better Health - Production
STEP BY STEP OF MY PRINT ADVERT
1) I have chosen a navy blue background, this is because we associate the colour blue with boys, so they will be attracted to the poster immediately. Of course, I am not just aiming this poster at boys, this can be gender neutral.
2) Including the NHS logo implies which company i am designing the product for. If I wasn't to do this, then readers would be confused to what they're getting themselves into.
3) I have inserted an image of a man that's "in-shape" to entice the audience into wanting to stay healthy.
4) I have also added a "cheesy" slogan to grip the reader in being motivated to start the gym.
These are snippets of what my NHS advert will look like. I have decided to base the advert around fitness due to the "Better Health Campaign" brief.
1) For my first shot in my advert (top left), I have decided to use an establishing shot. This is a good way to introduce the character at the beginning and to give the audience an idea of where the character will be located for the advert and also represents the relationship between the location and the character.
2) Next, I used a medium long shot for my character entering the gym, i have used this to set the scene of what is happening for the audience and the viewer and it will give them a clear understanding.
3) I have used a mid-shot to show the character lifting a weight and gaining fitness in the "montage". I did this to show that the exercise is easy to do and it will encourage others to try and complete the exercise.
4) For the next scene, i have asked my character to lay down "out of breath" to express how tiring it can be to exercise. Why I have done this will be made clearer when i talk about the next scene.
5) I have used an extreme close-up shot of my character's hand pushing himself up from the floor and is motivated to continue by his resilience. This is shown clearly with the facial expression. This will hopefully encourage others to stay motivated and never give up.
6) For the next scene, I have used a medium close-up shot of my character bench-pressing. I have done this to have a tight frame which allows the audience to focus on the action in the shot. I have also ensured that the shot is at eye level to gain a connection to the audience. I have used a deep focus to make sure every bit of the frame is clear to draw attention that it is in a sports environment so that it links to the theme of fitness and would fit the brief for my client.
7) For my penultimate shot, i wanted my character to take part in some type of sporting activity to express fitness and keeping healthy, therefore i decided to shoot at Goals. I used a wide shot of Saul kicking the football, to show all of the action and this includes both characters and a deep focus of the frame.
8) I have used a medium close-up to express my characters facial expression after being able to keep fit and improve his health.
PRODUCTION DIARY: NHS PRINT/ TV ADVERT
I had originally planned to start filming my TV advert today (Wednesday 11th January) but due to bad weather, I couldn't film the shots I needed outside of the college buildings. I had also planned to film inside the college gym but Sean (Curriculum Manager) wasn't available neither was my talent for the shoot. Instead, i have planned to film on Friday (13th January).
On Friday, I managed to film my inside shots in the college gym. Due to the windy weather, I couldn't film outside as it would affect the voice recordings, next time I will try to get a hold of an external microphone with a cover so it will block out the sounds of the bad weather. Some of my images were blurry so I had to reshoot them. I was finally able to film my outside shots the following Monday (16th January) although I did find that there was a dead battery in the camera but that was instantly solved as i just replaced it with a charged battery. Some of the shots I taken were blurry so I had to choose wisely and select the best ones possible to include in my advert.
The issues that occurred whilst using Photoshop was getting to grips with the tools as I hadn't used it much apart from a few times on last year's course. I also had problems with the layers and the specific placements of my images/text in each layer.
